Where'd the Pictures Go?

I obviously don't know how to use this blog because none of the pictures I attached last time seem to be showing up. Oh well. They were mainly pictures of bamboo we were trying to choose from and we decided against bamboo. A friend of mine emailed me saying he had heard there were problems with it scratching and denting, so I looked into it further and found that to be a common problem. We went to Lumber Liquidators Saturday and in talking to one of the guys there we found out that if we have particle board sub-floor we're going to have to remove it before we put in any kind of hardwood. Depending on when the current vinyl was installed there could also be asbestos (our house was built in 1968). I'm hoping we have plywood under there or we'll probably end up going with a floating floor- basically laminate. I don't love laminate because it's noisy to walk on and the pattern repeats over and over, but I may end up with it anyway. I'm worried about the amount of extra work pulling up the sub-floor would create for Dave, and if there is asbestos it's not even an option. If we do have plywood underneath then I think we'll probably go with American cherry hardwood to match the cabinets.
We're definitely looking forward to getting it finished, which I realize is a long way off. When we went to look at the granite Saturday we found some we really liked. Of course, when we asked about ordering it we found out it's discontinued and they don't have enough in the shop to do our kitchen, nor do they have any backsplash pieces left. Our original choice of granite was available and we may still do that, but now that we've seen the other color we may hold out to see what the new stuff they're getting in looks like. It's supposed to be similar. I'm a little bummed we couldn't get the other color, but again, oh well. I'm waiting for the cabinet shop to call and tell me they can't get the wood I want, you know?
