Kids! What's the matter with kids today...

I have the hardest time getting my kids to do their chores. I was whining about it to my mom last Friday, so she took it upon herself to come to my house at 10:00 a.m. Saturday and force the march, so to speak. We dragged the kids out of bed and made them clean house for about five hours. The kids are way more afraid of my mom than they are of me, so it works better when she's there. Plus, she's always good with the rewards (lunch at Arby's). Since I'm too broke presently to pay for rewards she's the woman. After five hours of five people cleaning was the house sparkling? Not quite, but much better than it was. Yes, my house is messy enough that many hours of cleaning didn't render it spotless. The kids did a lot of wandering around and I had to run errands, so I'm thinking it was about eight hours of cleaning, but still my point is the house was out of control.

In that time Saturday the laundry wasn't finished or folded. The folding happened last night for family night. Again, Mom came over bearing prizes for the one that folded the most clothes. The loser had to match the socks. Shane won with 20 pieces of clothing folded and chose (of course) the $5 bill. The other prizes (blockbuster and jack-in-the-box gift cards and Thomas Kemper sodas) were put away for the next pile of clothes. Gotta love Mom. I think the kids were surprised how quickly it all got done when everyone was helping. It was less than 4 minutes. We'll definitely do that activity again.

Saturday while the rest of us were cleaning Dave was working on the kitchen. He worked on it for probably 10 hours and got SO MUCH DONE. He finished putting the marble tile on the counters and most of the backsplash. Yesterday he put the 'bar' on top of the half-wall. I have to take pictures. I'm so bad about that. My hope is that today or tomorrow he'll tile the bar top and finish the backsplash. We're getting so close to being finished- it's really great! Since the house is actually clean at the moment (at least it was when I left this morning) if you want to come see the kitchen progress this would be a good time to do it.

Oh, and give Dave a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY- he's turning 43 tomorrow (yes, he's my Halloween boy). I'm sure many of you are thinking, "That explains a lot."
